About This Game star ShelterStar shelter is one of the first VR games with classic survival mechanics. You're stranded in a mysterious graveyard of abandoned ships, the only way out is to repair a broken spaceship. You have to scavenge for materials and plants to repair and arm your spaceship.Keep your oxygen, power, and hunger in the green. Grow plants, build solar panels and other objects to generate what you need. Climb around the zero gravity but don't rely on your thrusters to much, they are fueled by the same oxygen you breathe. Scavenge the wreckages of spaceships and be wary of hazards.current Features: Randomly generated environments and spaceships. Use the crafting to build, arm and improve your Space station. If you want survival, crafting and a measure of base building in VR, this is your title.. This game is easily one of my favorite VR experiences, though it does have some glaring issues.A lot of people say this is like Subnautica in space but that makes no sense whatsoever, because this is absolutely nothing like Subnautica in any way. It would actually be way more accurate to say that this is a lot like Raft in space, the wreckages being like the materials floating in the water, and the abandoned/broken down spaceships and spacestations being like the islands you occasionally float past.The biggest two issues I have is that there's no option to make the AI stop giving you tips about things, because it's incredibly annoying to hear the AI say to return to the station every time my oxygen is half empty, incredibly annoying to hear a lecture about growing food whenever my hunger is half empty, and incredibly annoying to get a lecture about where my materials go after I salvage something.The other issue is that it's too easy to open the helmet, as just grabbing the general area of the handle will make it open and this is incredibly easy to do on accident when trying to move around, and I've died multiple times by doing this in space while trying to move around on wreckages to salvage them. There should at least be a motion of pulling up the handle to open the helmet or something to make this happen way less.. This game is pretty enjoyable. I haven't put long hours into the game quite yet, but ever person I've had try the game has really enjoyed it. This is definitely a game for those who want a sandbox style game with fun movement and a little panic on occasion. There are three main points to this game that work well the way they have been designed. Scavenging materials, growing and harvesting food and resources, and dangerous exploration. The hacking can be a bit fickle at times. The three rings act like lock tumblers and they need to be rotated in the same way a lock works. However, and maybe it's just me, the rings don't always act like you'd expect them to. Half the time I have no idea if I'm not even interacting with the rings, or if I'm trying to turn them in a way they don't turn. Definitely worth playing, just be patient with the locks and put on your favorite spacey-soundtrack.. Gameplay still in progress; but to keep things short:1. Yes this is a good game, and I think that it is worth $15.2. If you enjoy Subnautica, The Forest, or other crafting survival games, this one checks most of the marks of what makes those good.3. It's Early Access and it shows, but not to the point that it is unplayable. It is definitely frustrating at times, my first hour was spent dying repeatedly trying to figure out what to even do. There's a lack of clarity in tutorials, there are common gameplay bugs when interacting with most things, and generally gameplay balance feels off right now. All that being said, you can see the core design shine through and once all those issues are fixed this should be a solid VR experience for any gamer.4. There are currently not many videos/tutorials/discussions in regards to how to get started. If you're picking this game up I recommend you have previous Survival Crafting genre experience as you'll need to know the basics of that genre to get anywhere in the early access state.Will update this review as I complete my playthrough. The controls felt really clunky. I'm playing on Windows MR and it is definitely not optimized for that, because I have to watch each hand grip or release surfaces in order to move properly, and when I do that I lose track of where I'm going. I spent about 80% of my play time just trying to navigate small rooms, because I was spinning and rocketing every direction but the one I wanted to go to. Maybe if a feature was added so I could hit the brakes and the game would auto-compensate for thrusters to stop me dead? It's really annoying when you're trying to land on a platform and you keep overshooting it and can't quite grab a bar as you zoom past faster than you meant to. Possibly just a learning curve that'll take some time to figure out, but still a pretty big deterrent to a new player.Hacking locks is a freaking nightmare, too. The grip on the circles releases while I'm holding the button still and maybe there's a trick to it that I'm missing, but so far I've tried about ten different strategies to unlock them and they just keep timing out and I have to go back to recharge.I have found that my controllers seem to be a little twitchy so I've moved my bluetooth receiver away from the USB 3.0 ports, hopefully that will help the overall functional abilities of my VR controllers, so we'll give it another go and update this review if that makes a difference.. Haven't played to much of the game, but so far, I love it. I just can't wait to be able to play with friends with multiplayer. As far as I know, this is the only game of its kind (VR Space Survival Game) currently on steam. A must have for Sci-Fi survival fans.
